Since its inception, Mambomundo.com, has served as the portal for people who embrace the Hispanic culture. In four short years, Mambomundo.com has achieved national and international success as an independent media outlet responsible for bringing Latin entertainment into the Gulf South Region (Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Texas, and Florida).

Sergio Cabrera, owner of MamboMundo.com, created Mambomundo in 2001 in Baton Rouge, LA, while working as a network support engineer for the Louisiana Legislature. Prior to the “Latin explosion” in North America, Sergio was already sponsoring sold out Latin events in the Baton Rouge area under the name Slice of Heaven Productions, the parent company of Mambomundo.com.

After conquering the entertainment scene in Baton Rouge, Slice of Heaven, Inc. expanded to the Greater New Orleans metro area. Beginning with a weekly Latin event at Southport Hall, a solid marketing campaign ensued. By actively participating in bringing top notch Latin artists to the city, MamboMundo quickly gained notoriety around the music industry as the go-to promoter in the Southern region as well as making New Orleans a must stop destination for many Latin musicians on tour around the country.

By 2003, Mambomundo.com had become a household name across the state of Louisiana and began expanding to other markets in neighboring states. Shortly thereafter, MamboMundo presented Tumbao!, a weekly Latin event that would become New Orleans’ most successful Latin event to date with an unprecedented 35 acts in one year and a weekly attendance of 600 patrons per week on average.

Due to the overwhelming popularity of MamboMundo.com, the demand for its advertising space soared. The New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival, the International Arts Festival, House of Blues, TwiRoPa, Chivas Regal and Cox Cable were just a few of the major clients to advertise on Mambomundo.com

In 2004, MamboMundo delved into radio with MamboMundo Live!, a weekly radio show on La Fabulosa WFNO, New Orleans’ premiere Spanish format station. During its existence, the show was widely embraced, as well as criticized, for its bilingual approach to radio broadcasting which is almost become standard practice in other major markets.

With the combined efforts of internet, radio, print (Vocero News social section), and event promotion, MamboMundo.com reached unprecedented heights attracting over 2 million visitors to the website by 2004.

Due to the unforeseen circumstances of Hurricane Katrina, Slice of Heaven, Inc. relocated to Houston, TX. By incorporating similar marketing tactics into a market with a much larger Hispanic population, Mambomundo.com has been able to make a strong impression on the Houston community in a very short time. Mambomundo Live TV debuted in late 2005 as the next level of consumer accessibility. In addition to a bi-weekly television show, the website has adapted well in the Houston market as the source for Latin entertainment and has received lots of support and acclaim for its ability to attract a multi-ethnic consumer base.
