MAMBOMUNDO.COM – TAKING HOUSTON’S LATINO COMMUNITY BY STORM

Ex-New Orleander and Katrina survivor, Sergio Cabrera, to promote Latin music events in Houston through mambomundo.com website

Sergio Cabrera, like the rest of the world, had no idea what kind of devastation hurricane Katrina would wreak on his home city of New Orleans-- nor did he realize the incredible opportunity this tragedy would bring.

Because of the massive devastation Katrina left behind, Cabrera was one of many Louisianans that was forced to pick up and move everything and essentially start over.

With Houston being the U.S.’s fourth-largest Hispanic market, it didn’t take Cabrera long to decide where mambomundo.com’s new home would be.  According to projected census polls, Houston has a population of over two million, and Hispanics comprise nearly 38% of that.

Mambomundo.com promotes new Latin musicians, critiques Latin albums and artists, and provides a forum for opinions and open discussion regarding Latin music and entertainment.

According to Cabrera, mambomundo.com “gives a voice to a culture normally forgotten by main stream America.”

The “Dotcommer” as Cabrera calls himself, has a knack for Latino entertainment.  He knows Latinos, he knows how the entertainment industry works, and most importantly, he knows music.

Says Cabrera, “We have carved a nitch in the music industry, and we are proud of the role we are playing in it-- we make a difference.”

Born in Cuba, he has always been an avid lover of all genres of music, but Latin music is the closest to his heart.  Now, through mambomundo.com, he can share that love of music with others throughout the world.

“I’m on top of the latest trends in Latin music, but of I also know that Latinos want to hear the music they grew up with and that reminds them of home—salsa, merengue, bachata-- and I know   how to bring that music here to Houston for them,” said Cabrera.

Before Hurricane Katrina hit, mambomundo.com was averaging 2.5 million hits a month, but due to this transition phase, it is currently averaging about one million hits a month.
